
Misdemeanors
Oregon and Washington have different distinction for misdemeanor offenses, but at the most basic level, misdemeanors crimes are those that carry less than 1 year in jail. Whereas, felonies are more serious offenses and carry more than 1 year in jail.
Oregon Misdemeanors
Class A : 1 year in jail and/or a fine up to $6,250
Class B: 6 months jail and/or a fine up to $2,500
Class C: 30 days jail and/or a fine up to $1,250
Washington Misdemeanors
Gross Misdemeanor: 1 year in jail with a fine up to $5,000
Simple Misdemeanor: 90 days jail with a fine up to $1,000
In Oregon, your case will be heard in Circuit Court or Municipal Court, while in Washington your case will be heard in District Court or Municipal Court. All misdemeanors carry jail sentences under 1 year, but it is important to know these offenses are still serious and required a experience attorney to devise a defense strategy.
